Opera Philadelphia, aiming to broaden its appeal and make opera accessible to almost anyone in Philadelphia, announced tickets for every seat at every 2024-’25 performance would cost as little as $11.
The promotion, which Opera Philadelphia calls “Pick Your Price,” allows ticket buyers to pay as much or as little as they choose down to a minimum of $11. The organization calls this a first of its kind at any major American opera company.
Anthony Roth Costanzo, the star countertenor and Opera Philadelphia’s president and general manager since April, explained that the promotion “encourages audiences to take a risk and try something new, allows parents to bring their children more easily, and spurs opera lovers to come to more performances.”
Helping fund Pick Your Price, Opera Philadelphia also announced it raised over $7 million in Costanzo’s first 10 weeks on board. The influx of funds has allowed the organization to clear its debts and start a new chapter, it said in a press release.
Pick Your Price is available now for all 2024-’25 performances, including Missy Mazzoli’s “The Listeners,” Joseph Bologne’s “The Anonymous Lover,” and Mozart’s “Don Giovanni.”
