Russian violinist Nikita Boriso-Glebsky will perform the world premiere of Eugène Ysaÿe’s long-forgotten Violin Concerto in D minor, with conductor Leon Botstein leading The Orchestra Now. The concerto, discovered at The Juilliard School’s library and brought out of obscurity by French musicologist Xavier Falques, will be performed for the first time on May 8 at Carnegie Hall.

Why it matters:

  • Rediscovery of a Major Composer’s Work: The world premiere of Ysaÿe’s Violin Concerto brings to light a forgotten work by a major violinist-composer, potentially revealing a new entry into the canon of works for violin and orchestra.
  • Cultural Enrichment: The performance not only highlights the talents of Boriso-Glebsky, who has garnered acclaim in prestigious violin competitions, but also underscores the commitment of conductor Leon Botstein and The Orchestra Now to reviving lesser-known works and showcasing young, vibrant musicians from around the world at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall.
