Fast-rising conductor Nathalie Stutzmann, currently preparing for her second summer at Germany’s Bayreuth Festival, has signed a recording deal with Warner Classics’ Erato label that will feature the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, where she is Music Director. The first release in the partnership will feature music by Dvořák and is expected in August.

Why it matters:

  • Representation on the podium: Stutzmann is one of the very few female conductors signed to major record labels. Representation on recordings is important to further break the glass ceiling that has long existed for women on the podium.
  • The ASO’s return to a major label: Following years of successful recordings on the ASO’s in-house label, ASO Media, the deal with Warner Classics’ Erato imprint gives the orchestra a marketing and distribution boost it hasn’t seen since its past recordings for Telarc.
