London’s Academy of St. Martin in the Fields announced it extended the tenure of music director and renowned violinist Joshua Bell until August 2028. Bell took the helm at ASMF in 2011, bringing a unique blend of conducting and performing on violin that has been a well-suited match for the orchestra’s core repertoire of Baroque and Classical period music.

Why it matters:

  • Continuity and Stability: ASMF’s and Bell’s decision to extend the tenure provides continuity and stability for the orchestra, ensuring ongoing artistic leadership and direction for the next four seasons.
  • Honoring Legacy: Bell’s announcement during the centenary celebration of ASMF founder Neville Marriner reflects on the orchestra’s rich history and honors its founder. By acknowledging Marriner’s influence on his own career and the orchestra’s standards of excellence, Bell underscores the importance of preserving and building upon the ASMF’s heritage.
